LI-FI TECHNOLOGY

Transferring data from one place to another is one of the most important day-to-day activities. The current wireless networks that connect us to the internet are very slow when multiple devices are connected. As the number of devices that access the internet increases, the fixed bandwidth available makes it more and more difficult to enjoy high data rates and connect to a secure network. Nowadays, everyone is interested in using his mobile phone, laptop to communicate with other people through Wireless-Fidelity (Wi-Fi) systems but the capacity is going down due to the limitation of Radio Frequency (RF) resources. In order to overcome this problem in the future, Professor Harald Haas, an expert in optical wireless communications, proposes in 2011 a brilliant and applicable solution by using light to transmit data, he demonstrated how a Light-Emitting Diode (LED) bulb equipped with signal processing technology could stream a high-definition video to a computer and he showed that one watt LED light bulb would be enough to provide network connectivity to four computers. This new technology is known as Light–Fidelity (Li-Fi).

What is LI-FI?
It is a short-range wireless communication system based on light illumination from the LED, and use the visible light as a signal carrier instead of traditional RF carrier as in Wi-Fi. Professor Harald Haas coined the term "Light-Fidelity" and set up a private company, called “Pure Visible Light Communication”, to exploit that technology. He envisions a future where data for laptops and smartphones are transmitted through the light in a room in a secure way.
Li-Fi technology is implemented using white LED light bulbs used for illumination by applying a constant current. However, by fast variations of the current, the light output can be made to vary at extremely high speeds. If the LED is on, it transmits a digital 1 otherwise it transmits a digital 0. The LEDs can be switched on and off quickly to transmit data that can’t be detected by a human eye. The LED bulb will hold a microchip that will do the job of processing the data. The light intensity can be manipulated to send data by tiny changes in amplitude.

Figure 1
Figure 1 shows the working principle of Li-Fi system, for data transmission, it can be done by a single LED or multi-LED. On the receiver side, there is a photodetector, which converts this light into electric signals and it will give the electric signals to the device connected to it. Voltage regulator and level shifter circuits are used on both sides to convert or maintain a voltage level between transmitter and receiver

LIFE WITH LI-FI
The dramatic growth in the usage of LEDs for lighting provides the opportunity to incorporate Li-Fi technology into a plethora of LED environments, for instance, any lighting devices like car lights, ceiling lights, and street lamps are used as a hotspot which helps us to lower cost architecture for a hotspot.
This technology is particularly suitable for many popular internet applications; you can download movies, games, and music in just a few minutes with the help of Li-Fi.

Figure 2
Figure 2 shows the environment with the Li-Fi technology where light bulbs are used as a data communication medium to PC, Laptop and Tablet as it all have photodetector connected to it as a receiver.

CHALLENGES
Apart from many advantages over Li-Fi, this technology is facing some problems such as Li-Fi requires line of sight (LOS) and receiving device would not be a shift in indoors. A major challenge is how the receiving device will transmit data back to the transmitter. Another important issue is interference from external light sources like sunlight, normal bulbs, opaque materials in the path of transmission will cause an interruption in the communication. Another disadvantage is that Li-Fi doesn’t work in the dark or light can’t pass through objects, so if the receiver is inadvertently blocked in any way, then the signal will immediately cut out. And the signal is easily blocked by somebody simply walking in front of the LED source.

Finding the universe

Tourism has been a part of human life since the beginning of the mankind of existence. tourism expanded during the twentieth century and now represents more than a half a trillion dollar industry worldwide and the recent buzz in the industry is space tourism.
Space tourism is a space travel for recreational, leisure& business purposes. The pioneer of the idea is SirRichard Branson in the year 2004.Founder of the Virgin group he founded space flight corporation Virgin Galactic a spaceport which is designed for space tourism. There are different types of space tourism orbital, suborbital and lunar space.
Earlier in the 2000s, the Russian Space Agency took seven paying members of the public into space. It canceled the programme in 2010 when the end of Nasa’s Space Shuttle programme meant the US agency needed seats aboard Russian flights to send its astronauts to the International Space Station.later the private players entered into the sector. The major players in the industry are Virgin galactic founded by Sir Richard Branson, Blue origin founded by Jeff Bezos.space-X founded by Elon Musk.
Soon it won’t only be Nasa-trained astronauts who can experience the wonder of space travel, but us mere mortals too. You won’t need any science qualifications either, as a fully-trained crew will be on hand to make sure your journey goes smoothly.

Virgin Galactic” a space tourism company which is creating historic milestones in space industry reached the edge in achieving the success
Virgin Galactic is planning to offer sub-orbital flights to paying passengers aboard their craft, the SpaceShipTwo. Sub-orbital means that you’re not high enough to actually orbit the earth, but as the goal is to pass the 100km line that marks the edge of space, you will technically be in space, and also experience weightlessness.

On 13/12/2018 the virgin galactic sent a space flight, with a rocket motor burn of just 60 seconds, but the mission reached the company's targeted altitude, hitting a peak of 51.4 miles achieving a new record (82.7 kilometers), the speed is nearly three times the speed of sound and the journey was for 14 mins. which it deems meets the requirement for spaceflight.

A camera on Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo VSS Unity captured this view of the Earth from over 51 miles (82.7 kilometers) up during a test launch on Dec. 13, 2018, from Mojave Air and Space Port in California. It was Virgin Galactic's first trip to space.

Upcoming projects:
·       Elon Musk announced that substantial deposits from two individuals had been received by SpaceX for a Moon loop flight using a free return trajectory and that this could happen as soon as late 2018.
·       A trip to the international space station
·       Traveling from place to place through space.

3D Metal Printing

3D Printing has been gaining traction through many scientific and engineering disciplines as an easy way to print complex structures, some of which are not possible by other means and the recent trend in the industry is 3D metal printing.

What is 3D printing and 3D metal printing?

3D printing is an approach that fuses together different materials into various complex structures, which have previously been designed and pre-programmed.it is done by a novel layer-by-layer deposition method that can be designed in three-dimensions.

The 3D metal printing is a process that uses metals. it fuses layers of metals together using a laser, The process is controlled by scanning the structure with the laser. there are different methods to 3D print metals. the materials that can be used in 3D metal printing includes aluminum, copper, gold, platinum, titanium and various metal alloys

Recent developments in 3D metal printing:

1. 3D printing aluminum structures at room temperature:
The process is considered to be a non-melt method and has been proven to create structures that have a density in excess of 99%.
2. 3D printed vaccines:
SEAL (StampEd Assembly of polymer Layers), a new 3D printing technique. Created by 3D micro particles capable of holding vaccine doses. It enables the release of their contents into the body at different stages. this groundbreaking project will improve immunization rates for those without regular access to healthcare.this is been funded by bill gates foundation
3. 3D printing in the construction industry:
A Dutch company and the Eindhoven University of Technology used their giant concrete printer to construct a pedestrian bridge.
4. 3D printing in robotics:
Create complex parts from a range of materials that are capable of performing diverse functions.

Major players in the industry :

  •  HP metal jet:

HP claims that the new additive manufacturing system will provide users with up to 50 times more productivity at a significantly lower cost compared to other metal 3D printing methods.

  •        Desktop metal:
This groundbreaking hardware tandem is making metal additive manufacturing much more affordable and capable of producing parts faster.

And many more.

Metal 3D printing processes are used to manufacture complex, bespoke parts with geometries that traditional manufacturing methods are unable to produce. the parts can be topologically optimized to maximize their performance while minimizing their weight and the total number of components in an assembly.

The 3D metal printing trend is already established in Germany and we will see more widespread adoption globally in 2018. Soon there will be a future of a 3D printed world , and the time is now to find the right-fit for your organization.
